Recent federal safety actions involving products sold through Amazon and eBay demonstrate how quickly an ordinary household or recreational product can create a serious risk of injury. The hazards range from fires and severe burns to intestinal injuries, battery ingestion, falls, and entrapment. These recalls also reinforce an important point from our previous discussion of defective products: a consumer may be exposed to danger before receiving any recall notice.
Aronberg & Aronberg encourages consumers to remain informed about product recalls and to seek legal guidance when an unsafe product causes an injury.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers on July 22, 2026, to stop using Lakkzoom immersion water heaters immediately. Approximately 98,000 units were sold through Amazon and eBay between September 2022 and July 2026. According to the CPSC, the heaters can ignite within minutes when partially or completely out of water. The agency is aware of 235 reports of fires involving these products.
This case is particularly significant because the Department of Justice filed an imminent-hazard action seeking a mandatory recall. The CPSC stated that this was its first use of Section 12 imminent-hazard authority since 1987, reflecting the seriousness of the alleged danger.
The CPSC has also warned consumers to stop using METASONO/MEATSONO heated insoles. The internal lithium-ion batteries can explode or ignite even when the insoles are turned off. A total of 1,173 units were sold through Amazon and eBay from July 2023 through July 2026.
The reported injuries make this warning especially concerning. The CPSC knows of 14 fires, explosions, or other thermal incidents and at least 10 burn injuries, including second- and third-degree burns requiring skin grafts. Consumers are advised to follow local hazardous-waste procedures rather than placing the defective products in ordinary trash or recycling.
On August 6, 2026, approximately 860 PIXLABBY Silicone Sensory Magnetic Fidget Sliders were recalled after regulators determined that high-powered magnets could become accessible to children.
If multiple high-powered magnets are swallowed, they can attract one another through intestinal tissue, potentially causing perforations, twisting, blockages, blood poisoning, or death. The danger is not theoretical: the CPSC reports that one child removed the silicone casing, swallowed two magnets, and was hospitalized. The products were sold on Amazon between October 2025 and May 2026.
Approximately 94,000 LiCB CR2032 3V lithium coin batteries were recalled on May 14, 2026, because their packaging did not meet federal child-resistant packaging and warning requirements under Reese’s Law.
Coin batteries are particularly dangerous when swallowed because they can cause severe internal chemical burns and death. No injuries involving this specific recall had been reported when the notice was issued, but the packaging violation creates a serious risk because small children may gain access to the batteries.
Wnttmt Baby Walkers
The CPSC recalled approximately 1,310 Wnttmt baby walkers on August 6, 2026. The walkers can fit through standard doorways and may fail to stop at the edge of a step, creating a potentially deadly fall hazard. Their leg openings can also allow an infant to slide downward until the child’s head becomes entrapped.
Although no injuries had been reported at the time of the recall, the walkers violate the mandatory federal safety standard for infant walkers. Consumers are instructed to stop using them immediately and seek a refund.
Were you injured before learning that a product had been recalled? Did a defective product cause burns, a fall, or another serious injury? Are you unsure whether the manufacturer, distributor, or seller may be responsible?
Product recalls can provide important evidence that a safety problem existed, but an official recall is not necessarily required for a product liability claim. Preserving the product, packaging, purchase records, photographs, and medical documentation can be important after an injury.
