PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — The South Florida Safe Roads Task Force is kicking off a week-long initiative Monday in an effort to save lives. Florida leads the country in bike deaths and is ranked among the worst in pedestrians killed. In recent years, several pedestrians and cyclists have been killed along State Road A1A. State law makers and law enforcement are working to curb that deadly trend.

As drivers, bicyclist and pedestrians travel along State Road A1A they will notice lighted signs erected to share tips on how to safely navigate the road. Florida Highway Patrol along with several law enforcement agencies will be patrolling State Road A1A from Fort Lauderdale to Jupiter. Florida State Representative Irv Slosberg is behind this initiative. His daughter, Dori, was killed in a car crash on a state highway in 1996.

Florida leads the country in bicyclists killed on our roads. Let’s help out and try to make a difference. Please be safe and be very aware of pedestrians and bicyclists when driving on our roads. Your AWARENESS can save lives!!!
