There’s personal injury all around us – both the incidents of injury and the legal ramifications of such. In this blog update, we’d like to update you on some recent developments in the world of personal injury so that you might better prepare yourself against the unfortunate consequences of falling prey to life’s sticky situations.

We begin with a follow-up to a story that has grabbed headlines over the past couple months. As you may or may not know, in March of this year, a JetBlue pilot lost his cool aboard a cross-country flight and caused such a panic in the cabin that the flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Texas. The pilot was briefly hospitalized and then arrested for a number of crimes, among which was the act of disobeying crew member instructions while on boardan aircraft. The recently filed lawsuit doesn’t target the mentally unsound pilot, but rather the airline involved, JetBlue.

The lawsuit, and the passengers behind the suit, who experienced inexplicable fright on board the plane that day, want to know why on earth JetBlue permitted a man who had documented mental health issues to fly a commercial airplane filled with passengers. The lawsuit wants JetBlue to answer for their ostensibly negligent behavior in an effort to hold them accountable for the chaos and mayhem on flight 191 that day in late March. Passengers who were on that flight have spoken at length about how the fiasco affected them. Never again will they fly at ease—as they look at pilots on future flights, they will be reminded of the pilot who snapped in March, and will hope that their flight won’t turn out like the aforementioned flight.

In other personal injury news, a San Francisco woman was recently awarded a settlement of $6 million. The woman was 25-years-old when she was hit by a car in San Francisco. The accident left her brain permanently injured. What was interesting about this lawsuit was that it wasn’t against the driver—in fact, it was against the city for constructing a curve in the road that made it virtually impossible for motorists to see pedestrians at a certain part of the curve. The lawsuit alleged that had the city not been negligent in its design of the city street, the accident would have never occurred.

Lastly, the company Kolcraft has issued a recall on baby strollers. The recall concerns nearly 36,000 defective products that were sold in the U.S. and Canada between January of 2006 and June of this year. The recall was issued following reports of three young children suffering fingertip amputations and another two adults having their fingers smashed in the stroller. The fingers have been caught in the opening that is formed when locking and unlocking the hinge part of the stroller.
