Despite all of the new car technology and safety devices on and in our cars, the amount of deaths on our Florida roads INCREASED in 2016. This is NOT GOOD NEWS!!! What do we need to decrease tragedies on our roads. We have continuously used our blog to warn people about the dangers of driving. We have also warned people to stop being distracted when driving. We believe that a god majority of these traffic deaths are from people who are distracted when driving. So put down those cell phones and concentrate on driving your car!!! If you don’t someone in your family may need to call a Florida Wrongful Death Attorney.
Last year was the deadliest on our Florida roads since 2007. In fact, there were many more traffic deaths than homicides in our State of Florida. These traffic deaths can be avoided if we were all to concentrate on driving and not texting.
A total of 3,057 people were killed in car accidents in Florida in 2016. That is 3,057 too many!!! In 2015 there were 2,940. In Palm Beach County (where our Main office is located) alone there were 158 total traffic fatalities while in Broward County there were a total of 221 traffic fatalities.
The new year – 2017 – has started off on the wrong foot too. There have been 93 so far in the State of Florida.
As a result of these unfortunate statistics, the State of Florida is trying to do something about it. There has recently been a statewide program announced that will try to reduce the number of fatalities on our roads. The program is called “Arrive Alive” and it is aimed at decreasing fatal crashes by focusing on the roads that the most deaths occur. Perhaps those roads can be designed better? Perhaps there can be more signage? Perhaps we should lower the speed limit on those roads?
As we have said all along the MOST IMPORTANT driving behavior to stop is the use of the cell phone. There is not one good reason that you have to text and drive. If a true emergency PULL OVER safely to the side of the road or to a nearby parking lot and then use your cell phone.
Should you have any other ideas or suggestions we would love to hear from you. Feel free to email us at info@build.simple.biz. Please remember to drive safely and do not use your cell phones!!!
