Bad News Bayer – Aronberg & Aronberg

Bayer is a common name around houses, pharmacies and other retail locations around the globe.  The German-based corporation has had a proud place at the helm of modern medicine for many years and is, perhaps, most famous for Bayer Aspirin.  Another one of its most lucrative lines is the Yasmin birth control line which has been in the hot seat for some time now.  In this blog, we’re going to tell you about some lawsuits against the corporation and the results of those lawsuits.

Bayer’s Yasmin prescription birth control line has been the recipient of negative attention since May of 2011 when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a warning to the public following the completion of several studies which linked the use of Yasmin to increased risk of blood clots (as well as other serious side effects) when compared to other types of contraception.  While the FDA’s warning was useful, for some it was too late—by the time the warning was issued, thousands of women were already suffering from health issues caused by Yasmin.

In addition to the blood clotting, women have experienced, and can experience, heart attacks, cardiac arrhythmias, strokes, kidney failure, gallbladder disease, and even sudden death.  Given the deadly side effects of one of their most popular drugs, it is no surprise that Bayer has been hit with a multitude of lawsuits pertaining to their negligence in the aforementioned regard.  In fact, our research has revealed that Bayer has faced 651 lawsuits.

In it’s April, 2012 newsletter to the stockholders, the company announced that it had paid approximately $142,000,000 to settle the lawsuits—that averages out to over $218,000 per case.  The mammoth settlement issued by this mammoth corporation is evidence that if you have been harmed by a product, you do have rights and you can seek justice—even if the perpetrating company is one of the biggest and wealthiest in the world.
